Brief Teaching Philosophy Statement
My general teaching philosophy is to remove as many barriers to learning as possible while making my classroom environment a welcoming and fun place to learn agricultural economics. By developing classroom relationships, structuring my course in an effective manner, providing value added information in the classroom, communicating effectively, and assessing my students in a supportive environment I can remove many barriers and allow my students to truly engage with our content.

Synergistic Activities:

  1. AI in Agricultural Economics & Classroom Technology:
My presentation, “AI as a Farm Management Consultant and Financial Lender: Can Students Outperform AI”, directly reflects my commitment to integrating assistive technology in the classroom. I strive to remove learning barriers and enhance student engagement by leveraging technology. This approach allows me to connect concepts of technology, decision-making, and agricultural finance education in meaningful ways.
  2. Professional Deveopment in Teaching and Student Engagement:
Through my participation in the AAEA Teaching Academy, Peer Mentoring Program, and Mental Health First Aid Training, I continuously work to improve my teaching effectiveness and create a supportive learning environment. These experiences help me foster an inclusive, engaging, and student-centered classroom, reinforcing my philosophy of removing barriers to learning.
  3. Experiential Learning through Domestic Agricultural Production Tours & Quiz Bowl:
By leading the AGEC 3810 Domestic Agricultural Production Tours and mentoring students in Quiz Bowl, I provide hands-on learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. These activities help my students develop decision-making and critical-thinking skills, directly supporting my goal of making them better consumers, participants in the economy, and future agricultural leaders.
